Generates Temperatures Exceeding That of Most Cutting Torches!
Projects an invisible beam of heat capable of burning and melting materials over a considerable distance. This laser is one of the most efficient devices, converting up to 10% of its input power into useful output. Not only is the device a workhorse in welding, cutting and heat processing materials but it also is a likely candidate as an effective directed energy beam weapon against missiles, aircraft, ground-to-ground, etc. Particle beams may very well utilize a laser of this type to blast a channel in the atmosphere for a high energy stream of neutrons or other particles. The unit is built in two parts consisting of the water cooled laser head with a plasma discharge tube and necessary optics. A power supply is connected via an umbilical cord and allows remote control of the system. Device is easily applicable to burning and etching wood, cutting, plastics, textiles, trimming and light metal work. Special focusing lens available.
These are paper plans: 45 pages of schematics, instructions, and experiments, requiring parts and assembly (also available as downloadable plans for roughly half the price). |
Carbon dioxide experimental laser that is shown is built from readily available parts and pieces. System advantages are low cost and versatility. power output is in excess of 25+ continous watts @10.6 microns multimode when properly setup.
System is classified as a class 4 laser product and is labelled accordingly with all the necessary compliances as dictated by the NCDRH.
System is an axial flow water cooled design with external fittings for experimental gas mixtures. Factory setup will operate directly from readily available "lasermix" gas. Mirrors are internal and are easily removed for cleaning.
Output is more than sufficient for wood engraving, plastic and textile cutting as well as materials research. Laser will incinerate most flammable materials 3 to 5 meters from beam exit aperture-without any optics! This is a neat demonstration for showing the potential use as a directed beam weapon! Adding a focusing lens will provide temperatures in excess of most cutting torches allowing some interesting experiments.
