Product Description

Automotive Applications
High Reliability - Open and Short Circuit Protection

These CPI balanced output transformers are specifically made to power car neon tubing. The DC75 powers about 6-27 feet of neon, running at 7500 volts and 30 milliamps with safety fault shut down circuitry. The output frequency is between 25-30kHz. Metal housing with plastic enclosure to protect against the elements. Dimensions: 4.5"L (+1" for tabs) x 2.5"W x 1.5"H

Input: 12V 5A
Output: 7.5kV 30mA

Tube Load: Automatically adjusts to tube length including electrodes from minimum to maximum output listed in Tube Load Chart. Maximum length in feet may vary according to GTO leads length and environment. Always deduct 1 foot per each pair of electrodes. Footage for mercury is based on operation in temperatures above 4C (40F). DO NOT OVERLOAD by exceeding the maximum tube length indicated in the footage chart.

Features

  • Safe and Reliable with built in open circuit protection and thermal protection
  • Self Adjusting load sensor automatically adjusts from minimum to maximum output
  • Auto Shutdown: built-in protection circuit will shut down the power supply if unit is overloaded.
  • Aluminum Heat Sink to protect the transformer from overheating and can contribute to longer product life
  • Can be mounted directly to metal or non-metallic surfaces
  • No mercury migration
  • Complies with all FCC regulations
  • Reduced energy consumption
  • Weight: 1.1 lbs (0.49Kg)
  • 11 Inches of GTO Cable on each Secondary Lead
  • 13 Inch Positive and Negative leads
  • 8A in-line Glass Fuse

Precautions

  • This power supply unit is for INDOOR USE. (May be used for outdoor applications if mounted in metal weatherproof enclosure/box.)
  • Always provide adequate ventilation to power supply.
  • Keep overall length of GTO leads under 6 feet (2m).
  • Always keep a minimum of 1 inch between GTO leads and any metallic surfaces.
  • When using multiple power supplies on one sign, be sure to keep at least 3 inches between each unit.
  • Never cross GTO leads.
  • Never run GTO leads across the power supply.
  • Keep GTO leads as equal in length as possible.
  • Always keep installation in conformity with all local electric codes.
  • Modification of any type including cutting/removing of AC cord, tampering with on/off switch or tampering with casing will void any existing product warranty. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Warranty: this CPI neon power supply is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship by a One Year Limited Warranty from invoice date.

Using With Automotive Brake Lights

Some automobiles use neon transformers to power brake lights, directionals, and rear tail lights. Two (2) transformers are often needed for this application. We have had customers who have had these systems fail only to find that replacement costs are $400-700, and they have discovered that an easy fix is the use of 2 of our DC-series automobile transformers connected with diodes, which we sell here. Please note that you, the customer, must know the electrical hookup of your vehicle - that we do not provide this information and we cannot guarantee performance with your vehicle as we have no idea of its design parameters or electrical configuration. We can sell you these components, but you must know how to install them and how they work with your vehicle. Also please note there is no refund on these units due to the fact they are being used for other than what they were originally designed for. The diodes with which our customers have had success (600V 16A “TO220 ultra-fast” for making a 2-step ballast) are available here for purchase. You may need from 1 to several diodes per transformer to achieve the desired differential brightness between running and brake lights (this will depend on your vehicle and its setup, so the user forums or a vehicle repair manual may let you know):
