The telcon unit plugs into a standard modular phone jack via the phone line jack. The remote line plugs into an external phone line to monitor and use the line. The unit also includes a controller for an external X10 line interface module. The unit should work with the common type PL513 or the TW523. The only requirement for the interconnecting phone cable is that it be reverse wired. This is the normal way the cables are made. To determine if the cable is reverse wired, hold the two cable end connectors side by side and flat side up on both. The wire colors on one connector should have the colors reversed on the other.
WITH THE UNITS INSTALLED AND READY FOR CHECK OUT
Turn the power switch on. The "POWER" and "GRAB" LED'S should light. The "GRAB" LED will
stay on for 5 seconds. The unit is grabbing the line to allow you to enter either the security code or
the house code for the remote X10 units.
Security codes and house codes are stored in zero power memory. This means you can turn the
unit off without losing your codes.
SECURITY CODE
Determine if you require a security code. If a security code is used, the caller must enter the code to gain access to the unit. This prevents anyone else from listening in or breaking in on the other line.
HOW TO PROGRAM A SECURITY CODE:
Try and use a simple code that is easy to remember. Use a maximum of 8 digits. The simplest
code would be a 1 digit code. The digits can also be entered to spell words - "692633" = "MYCODE"
With the unit installed on your line and near a phone
connected to the same line, pickup the handset and turn the unit power "ON". You
have 5 seconds to start entering the code. The "GRAB" line is on during the
entry. The 5 second time is reset after each key press. Use only the number keys
for the code. Do not use * or # . # Starts and stops entry.
1. PRESS THE POUND KEY - #
2. ENTER THE SECURITY CODE - XXXX WHERE X EQUALS THE NUMBER OR NUMBERS
3. PRESS THE POUND KEY - #
OF YOUR SECURITY CODE
FOR NO SECURITY CODE:
1. PRESS POUND KEY - # - 2 TIMES ; ## SEQUENCE
HOW TO PROGRAM THE HOUSE CODE:
The remote X10 modules require you set the house code and the unit code. All X10 modules that
you wish to control by the phone, must have the same house code. X10 provides that you can set
the module to a unit code. There are 16 unit codes so you can control up to 16 separate devices. For
this discussion lets set up for house code M.
With the unit installed on your line and near a phone connected to the same line. Pickup the
handset and turn the unit power "ON". You have 5 seconds to start entering the code. The grab line is
on during the entry. The 5 sec time is reset after each key press. Each key has 3 letters each. You
will need to press the key based on the location of the letter on the key.
M IS THE FIRST LETTER OF KEY 6 (MNO)
1. PRESS STAR KEY - *
2 PRESS KEY - 6
3. PRESS STAR KEY - *
IF THE HOUSE CODE WAS "N", THEN
THE SEQUENCE IS *66*
IF THE HOUSE CODE WAS "K", THEN
THE SEQUENCE IS *55*
IF THE LETTER IS IN THE 3RD
LOCATION, THE * IS NOT REQUIRED AS ONLY 3
POSSIBLE PRESSES.
IF THE HOUSE CODE WAS "L", THEN
THE SEQUENCE IS *555
STANDARD OPERATIONS
The push-button on the board is
used to simulate a telephone ring. This allows you to use the unit without
having someone call you. This is convenient when setting up the mic volume as
you can select microphone and hear the mic on your phone.
THERE ARE
2 MODES OF OPERATION, "FAST" AND "ONE RING"
FAST: Grabs the phone line as soon as the phone
rings.
ONE RING: If more than one ring the unit ignores the call. Ring once and hang up
then call back after 10 secs. The unit will grab the line and wait or a security
code if used
You can pickup the phone and
press the push button to simulate the ring. Then you can control via the phone.
You will however hear the operator telling you you have made a bad call.
WHEN THE PHONE HAS GRABBED THE LINE:
Press the pound key - # - to sequence thru these selections:
1ST PRESS = NOTHING (A)
2ND PRESS = ROOM MICROPHONE
ON (B)
3RD PRESS = BREAK IN TO
OTHER PHONE (C)
4TH PRESS = RETURN TO (A)
During room microphone and
break-in modes the phone line will beep every 10 seconds.
THE
STAR KEY ( * ) IS USED FOR X10 CONTROL ACCESS
Lets assume the house code is "M"
and you have a module hooked up to a lamp. The module is also set to the unit
code "5". The lamp is therefore "M5". The telcon was programmed at power up to
house code "M" ( *6*
).
THE FUNCTIONS YOU CAN SELECT WITH THE REMOTE X10 MODULES ARE:
TURN ON =
1 ;SELECTED MODULE
TURN OFF =
0 ; SELECTED MODULE
ALL OFF =
2,3,4,5,6,7 OR 8 ; ALL HOUSE CODE UNITS OFF
ALL
ON =
9 ; ALL HOUSE CODE UNITS ON
You need to first tell TELCON
which house unit to talk to. It must be a two digit code for 1 to 16, i.e. 01,
16, etc..
Then you need to tell the
function you require. The "ALL ON" or "ALL OFF" functions can use any valid unit
code.
TO TURN ON THE LAMP AT CODE M5:
While the line is grabbed and
accessed press the following sequence:
*051 = UNIT 5 TURN ON
TO TURN IT OFF:
*050 = UNIT 5 TURN OFF
TO TURN OFF ALL M UNITS:
*052 ; 2 IS ONE OF THE "ALL OFF" KEYS
TO TURN ON ALL M UNITS:
*019 ; 01 IS A RANDOM VALID 01-16 CODE
2 MINUTE TIME OUT
The unit requires that a key be
pressed at least once every 2 minutes. If a key is not pressed for 2 minutes,
the unit will hang up. If you are listening to the microphone or using the
break-in mode make sure you press a number key, not or #, at least every minute
to keep your connection.
TERMINATING A CALL
After you have accessed and are
ready to quit. Simply hang up your phone and the TELCON will hang up and get
ready for your next call.
