Pure tungsten is preferred for electrode use as it does not oxidize or require cleaning. Its intrinsic low resistance allows the electrodes to run cooler. Tool steel will perform reasonably well for Tesla coils but will run hotter and consequently not quench the spark as well as tungsten.

Triggered Air Gap

As used in our high powered pulser HEP90. SingIe event triggered switch will handle up to 3,000 joules at 3 to 10 kv stand off voltage. Excellent for small rail guns, coil guns, plasma guns, can and object crushing, wire exploding, plasma propulsion, magnetizing etc. Device uses 2 x 3/8" pieces of finished pure tungsten electrodes capable of many shots before cleaning. Includes our HEP9 plans.

Fan Cooled Double Gap System

Excellent for Tesla Coils up to 36"

Intended for Tesla coils up to 15Kv at 500ma. Available with 3/8" machined tool steel or pure tungsten electrodes. 115 Vac is required for the high output fan. Ready to use with connection lugs. Size is 5 x 5 x 4".

Convection Cooled Single Gap System

Excellent for Tesla Coils up to 12"

High Speed Spark Gap Switches

Spark Gaps Switches cover the triggered spark gaps that consists of three electrodes in a hermetically sealed, pressurized envelope. Their applications fall into two broad categories, each involving capacitor switching at low impedence levels.

Our three electrode triggered vacuum gaps are ideal high-voltage switches for applications where a wide operating voltage range is desired.

Our ceramic-metal two electrode overvoltage spark gaps consist of two refractory metal electrodes in a hermetically sealed pressurized envelope. Overvoltage gaps are most often used in crowbar circuits to divert the energy stored in a capacitor bank or inductor to protect components such as microwave tubes.
